Francis M. Murphy, 99, Dumont Resident

DUMONT, N.J. -- Francis M. Murphy, of Dumont, died on Wednesday, March 1. He was 99. 

Born in Dumont, "He was a proud veteran, serving in the Army infantry and Air Force during World War II and Korea, retiring as a lieutenant colonel," information from the funeral home noted. 

Murphy retired as an inspector with the Department of Agriculture, working throughout the metropolitan area.

He is survived by his children, Francis Murphy Jr., Dr. John Murphy and Sharon Clevenger; grandsons Michael Clevenger and Patrick Murphy; and great-grandchildren James and Hannah. 

Murphy was preceded by his wife, Enola (Sommers); parents Kathryn (Kabanagh) and Francis Murphy; and sister Evelyn Murphy.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at St. Mary's Church, in Dumont. Interment will follow, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Tenafly. Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, in Dumont, is assisting with arrangements.
